A New Era Dawns for HIGHLIGHTS

From this year on, HIGHLIGHTS, which in the three years of its existence has taken up a leading position among German art fairs, will be held in the Munich Residenz, the former royal palace in the heart of the city. The celebrated Dutch exhibition architect Tom Postma designs a temporary hall, which is specially tailored to the Emperor’s Court of the Residenz. This will be connected to some of the rooms formerly occupied by the Egyptian Museum, thus providing the exhibitors with significantly more space in which to show off the quality of their chosen objects: around 2,000 square metres.

The change of location brings with it a change of timing and of duration in 2013: in order not to clash with Frieze Masters in London in October, among others, HIGHLIGHTS will now run from the 8th to 13th November 2013.

“We are very pleased to have found a prominent partner, in the form of the Bavarian Department of State-owned Palaces, Gardens and Lakes (Palace Department), with whom we can plan for the long term. The change of location to the Residenz will give the fair new impetus and bring us even closer to the centre of Munich’s cultural life,” said Konrad Bernheimer, one of HIGHLIGHTS art fair’s managing directors.

“The prestigious fair, with its focus on high quality and its high international reputation, is well suited to a building such as the Munich Residenz – they are a very good match,” confirmed the President of the Bavarian Palace Department, Bernd Schreiber.

HIGHLIGHTS will still continue to be the driving force behind the Munich Autumn Art Season. The Gallery Weekend run by the city’s galleries of contemporary art coincides with the fair’s new dates.
